In the past two decades, the popularity of golf
in Atlantic Canada and the golf industry itself have both seen
tremendous growth. Since the beginning of this growth, Eastern
Turf has been one of the premier industry suppliers, focusing on
providing exceptional products backed by exceptional service.
In 1987, the Equipment Division of the Halifax Seed Company –
Canada’s oldest seed supply company – moved into its own facility
in Burnside Park at 140 Ilsley Avenue, a location they still call
home. In December of that same year, the new company led by Paul
Tregunno officially became Eastern Turf Products Limited.
Eastern Turf Products initially focused on the consumer market,
representing a wide range of homeowner products such as mowers,
trimmers, chippers, tractors and Troy-Bilt tillers. The company
also supplied local golf courses with turf equipment and
servicing, and course maintenance supplies. These relationships
would prove valuable as the popularity of golf and Atlantic Canada
as a golf destination took off in the ‘90s.
In 1998, long time company employees Michael Moore and Tom Jubis
took an ownership role in the company as President and
Vice-President respectively.
To reflect the increased focus on the golf and turf industry, the
company changed its name to Eastern Turf Inc in 2001. From the
Eastern web site:
“The turf industry has become our main life
line. While our major supplier is Jacobsen, we also supply and
service products from various other manufacturers such as National
Mower Company, Turfco Mfg., Smithco, Kubota, Progressive, Foley &
Redexim.
We also carry golf course accessories from Standard Golf, Par
Aide, Bayco and Miltona Turf Products…. (and) we provide
fertilizer such as Par Ex, Grigg Bros., Milorganite and wetting
agents from Precision Laboratories.”
